Januszczak begins by analysing Gainsborough's painting Mr. and Mrs. Andrews, which contains tending to the overthrow elements at odds with its idyllic subject substance, and appears to have been deliberately left incomplete. In his portrait of two gentle 18th-century British landowners, Gainsborough may be under the necessity intended to depict bird carcasses in the unperformed area in the lady’s reach over as a not-so-subtle remark on the couple’s marriage and social position.
